When using this option you are responsible for purchasing “passes” to participate in practice sessions. Each practice session is $10. Your practice session may include dryland training, ice training, associated coaching, and use of club skates. |
There is no limit or minimum number of sessions that you must skate. Most skaters participate in 2-3 practice sessions per week, but this is the choice of each member. |
If you wish to participate in competitions there is generally a small entry fee – usually on the order of $30 per skater. Travel costs are the responsibility of the member. |
We have a wide range of sizes and quality of club skates available for our members to use. Generally, skaters eventually seek to upgrade their equipment as their skill levels improve. However, you are welcome to use our club equipment for as long as you are a member in good standing. We will assist you in the selection of upgraded equipment if you wish. |

What equipment do I need?
All you need are skates, a helmet, long sleeves and pants, and gloves. A bike helmet is fine. Any kind of gloves are fine. Some people like to wear kneepads, elbow pads and shin guards. Neck guards are required for competition and recommended for practice.
You can start learning on any skates, but speedskating is best on speedskates. The Club has some entry-level skates available free of charge on a first come, first served basis. There are a number of speedskate retailers on the Web.
Most skaters who compete wear skinsuits. The Club uses a suit designed by Steve Burton (see photo at right). In addition to helmets, competitors must also wear a neck protector, shin guards and gloves. |
